Many of us have a routine we follow, whether that’s sleeping in until 10 a.m. on the weekend, going to bed later, or visiting our favorite restaurant on Tuesdays. Incorporating wellness into that routine can be harder than it looks, but not impossible with the right approach. How to Create a Wellness Routine at Home

Prioritizing well-being can be challenging, especially with busy schedules and little time to set aside for yourself. However, the time you put into contributing to your wellness returns to you tenfold. Use the steps below to create your wellness routine to support your overall health. 

Start With Morning Mindset 

Routine wellness starts at the top of the day, from the first moments you open your eyes. Establishing your morning mindset begins with waking up at a consistent time, even on the weekends. As much as you might want to hit the snooze button, doing so can set the tone for the rest of your day. 

Avoid using your phone for the first 15 to 30 minutes after waking up. Instead, write in a bedside journal what you’re grateful for to help anchor your mind and start the day on a pleasant note. Letting in natural light can also help support your natural circadian rhythm, a key element of routine wellness. 

Move With Intention (Instead of Obligation)

Waking up and getting out of bed is one thing, but moving your body with intention can help get the blood flowing. In these first few minutes after you wake up, reacquaint yourself with your body’s movement. Solidify the relationship between mind and body by selecting movements that feel good, like stretching, walking, or dancing.


Spend at least 10 to 20 minutes doing your chosen activity, and let your muscles work out any kinks. Depending on your preferences and the time of year, you can also use soft music or lighting to help set the tone. Once you’re finished, reward yourself with a shower, a cup of your favorite beverage, or rest.
